Taylor Swift- Role Model & The Reason We Drive Our In Cars Singing Like Fools!

Meghan and I were having a contest regarding Taylor Swift’s lyrics and how they apply to my (our) life.  She listens to Taylor whenever we are in the van, which I really enjoy.  I made a comment last week that I should blog about how her lyrics are really telling the story about the last two years of my life.  Meghan got  very animated, telling me that she already has a draft started because of the same thing.  So the competition started.

If you’ve read Meg’s blog- you’ll see she got it done, I didn’t.  She won.  I already admitted it.  I think though it is a great thing that Meg beat me to the punch.  My research into Taylor’s lyrics was a great one.  Meghan and I acquired all the songs from soundtracks and bonus tracks we didn’t have.  We talked a lot about how they apply to me or to her.  Talked about which ones empowered us and the ones that made us cry.

Last night TS was on 60 minutes.  I was able to watch but Meghan and Kate were at YG, so I recorded it for them.  I loved how Taylor responded to the interviewer about being a role model.  She said something to the effect that she is very aware when she gets up in the morning that millions of people are thinking about her.  She said it is a personal responsibility to be a good role model for these fans.  My daughter included.  In an age where the nice become naughty and due to our e-world, the whole e-world and beyond find out the nasty things they do in a matter of minutes or less. The fans, the impressionable ones get a distaste for the star or emulate the behavior.  A genuine role model that connects so well to their fans is a rarity.  I appreciate her recognition of the enormous weight placed on a star of her caliber.  She handles it so gracefully, I might add.

Taylor won every category she was nominated in for at the AMA’s which aired last night.  She was genuinely shocked when she won Female Entertainer of the Year.   I am so happy for her.  Meg and I watched the end together and were both screaming in the family room when it was announced.

A couple of things to wrap this up.

Meghan wants to be an entertainer.  She’s taught herself how to play the guitar.  She writes song lyrics too.  I hear her singing and playing up in her room sometimes.  I can’t tell you how that makes me feel nut it’s like I smile all over.  If you have a dog who enthusiastically greets you, with the body wag, that’s kind of how I feel hearing my Meghan playing and singing.  On 60 Minutes there is a shot of Taylor with her glasses on, in the tour bus writing.  It seriously looks like Meghan!  Even Lizzie thought so.

The second thing is I am really praying Taylor Swift somehow gets to read Meghan’s blog about the songs, all 50 of them, and how they apply to her life.  Meghan is going through so much emotionally, I think it would help her heal a bit.  Not a magic pill, but just a little salve for her.

So, if you see the Chicks and I driving down the road singing like fools,  you’ll know why.  :)
